Our Sustainability Management System including QEHS (Quality, Environment, Health and Safety)

At Sheppard Earthmoving, sustainability is the core focus of our organisation. It is incorporated into every aspect of our business, from our strategic plans and operational processes to the solutions we develop with our customers and systems that support the work of our suppliers, employees and the community. We continuously seek improvement in business performance with efficient consideration of sustainability factors, industry best practices and stakeholder expectations. As a result, we have implemented a robust Sustainability Management System (SMS) that integrates with and overarches our Quality, Environment, Health and Safety (QEHS) Management strategy as well as our Asset Management Framework.

We believe in an integrated approach towards QEHS management, to provide a structured framework for effective quality, environment, health and safety practices and performance across all of our activities and operations. This approach enables us to develop, implement, monitor, review and continuously improve QEHS objectives, targets and performance standards to eliminate or minimise our exposure to operational risks to as low as reasonably practicable.

To assist us in meeting our objectives and obligations, we have also established two secure, tailored websites specifically for use by our contractors and employees. These sites are integral to the conduct and delivery of safe, effective and efficient business activities and operationalise our strategies and system. They encompass a range of functions including induction, compliance, documentation and processes, safety and training and ensure our contractors and employees have access to vital information, anywhere, any time. We also ensure that the ongoing management and improvement of our QEHS is monitored through an effective Assurance Program in accordance with AS/NZS 4801 (OHS Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management).

Sheppard Earthmoving is committed to achieving our quality, environmental, and health and safety performance goals and realizing continuous improvement across our operations. We use our Quality, Environment, Health and Safety (QEHS) Management Plan(s) to assist us in meeting these goals and our obligations in accordance with environmental, health and safety legislation. The QEHS Management Plan is a document that details the specific quality, health and safety and environment resources, responsibilities and practices to be used to manage our risks on site. Any project that does not require a QEHS Management Plan as per legislative requirements, shall use the appropriate safe work method statement (SWMS) or a risk assessment as mandated by legislation and Sheppard Earthmoving Sustainability Management System. Sheppard Earthmoving workers and Contractors will have access to the QEHS Management Plan, SWMS and risk assessments via our Employee and Contractor Sustainability Management System secure websites.

Sheppard Earthmoving are serious about developing and sustaining a productive work culture focused on sustainability, health and safety, the environment and the quality of our work. We are committed at putting this at the centre of what we do and have implemented a Contractor Sustainability Management System to assist us in meeting our commitments.

All Independent Contractors that are performing work on behalf of Sheppard Earthmoving are required to register in the Sheppard Earthmoving Contractor – Sustainability Management System (C-SMS) before starting work. The C-SMS requires Contractors to register and provide various company details, including supporting documents eg. insurances, trade licences etc in order to assist us in managing our risks on our sites.

All Contractors performing work on site must complete the Sheppard Earthmoving Online Induction prior to commencing work. This is a simple process whereby the worker is required to familiarise themselves with the Sheppard Earthmoving Sustainability Management System requirements by reading a number of information modules and electronically acknowledging that they have duly read and understood the information.

When Contractors enter the site, they will also need to have a short site induction to inform them of unique site characteristics and EHS arrangements. Sheppard Earthmoving shall regularly monitor the performance and behaviours of Contractors to ensure all C-SMS standards are being met. This also provides an opportunity for the Contractor to provide feedback to Sheppard Earthmoving regarding the C-SMS and/or raise any issue that is, or may become a health, safety, environmental or core business concern. Please click here to access the Contractor Sustainability Management System.

We have developed and implemented Sheppard Earthmoving’s Sustainability Management System (SMS). The Sustainability Management System is based on Sustainability (ISO 26000), Quality (ISO 9001), Environmental (ISO 14001) and Occupational Health and Safety (AS 4801) standards, best practices, international protocols and guides. We shall be seeking certification Quality, Environment and Health and Safety (QEHS) in the near future.
